Mendoza
Valparaiso - Mendoza: 300 miles
Mendoza was only one long ride away, and as usual, crossing into Argentina felt like getting back home. The first thing to see was Cerro de la Gloria (The Hill of Glory) at Parque General San Martín. Or was it the second, after Carlos' shop?

The Hills of Glory. Well, ok, so my interpretation may be a bit off.
Just like the sprocket job, the steering bearing replacement done in Rosario also proved to be a mistake. But this time, here in Mendoza, I knew it would be done right. Carlos not only had the necessary tools, but also worked "con carino". I did need to have some strings pulled so he'd touch anything but a beemer, pero esta bien.
Wine tasting was great, and getting to see Miriam again even better when she pulled into town shortly after. When we were heading out of town, it was her turn to visit Carlos.
Modern Mendoza is just another pretty Argentine city if you don't count in all the vineyards around. On one of the streets, I came across this incredible art installation, a series of caricatured dioramas depicting the old Mendoza. Strangely enough, the name of the artist was not mentioned anywhere.

I have to say that after reading about a lot of people bike travels I think you'v got it right. So many of them are just about them bikes or the scenery and never about the people or the different cultures they see on those roads. Your pics are great but there is something more in them then just pretty pics....
