Pucon
Valdivia - Pucon: 110 miles
Pucon - Lincan Ray: 30 miles
When we took exit S91 off of Highway 5 towards Lago Villarrica, we thought we were heading for this tiny, tranquil place called Pucon. But even before the town of Villarrica, we found ourselves locked in heavy traffic which indicated otherwise. Pucon indeed turned out to be this touristic hot-spot and we caught it in-season. The place is packed with restaurants and hotels, yet it took more than an hour's search to find a vacancy. Ultimately we camped at the backyard of a hosteria for the price of a room.

Right by the lake, and at the edge of a perfectly shaped smoking volcano, Pucon is very pretty for sure. But it wasn't what we'd hoped to find, so we rode to the next lake down south and found ourselves in a more modest Lican-Ray. Our night eating peanuts and drinking beer by the quiet lake side was much closer to what we were looking for. Then we saw a shooting star, which kept shooting and growing under our astonishment until it was like daytime. The meteor left us speechless and made the place unforgettable.
