Sarmiento
Camarones - Sarmiento: 280 miles
Heading south in Patagonia, you have two options: Take the straight, boring, windy, black top, Ruta 3; or the famous, potentially dangerous, also windy, gravel, Ruta 40. The catch is that if you want to see anything worth seeing, you have to take 40. And hence our sudden turn west which might look odd as marked on the map.
Settled between Musters and Colhue Huapi lakes, and known for the petrified forest to its south, Sarmiento was a surprisingly "happening" place on the weekend, and this included the municipal camp ground.
